Post-production house Azimuth has relocated its central London headquarters from Soho to Holborn, where it now occupies a seven-story building from the 1960s. Czech design practice Studio DD spearheaded the transformation of the structure, drawing upon cinemas and workshops to craft a firm visual identity for a truly dynamic and multifunctional facility. “It made us question and challenge everything. We had to accommodate a certain number of specialist rooms, from audio, voiceovers to edit suites, and it forced us to think differently about zoning and adjacency,” Studio DD says. “Ultimately, we grouped certain specialist studios together and repeated that layout on the first, second and third floors.”
Each floor is reimagined with expansive communal spaces to support versatility and foster creativity and collaboration. Accented by wool curtains for privacy, spaces transform into meeting rooms and breakout areas with ease, while private phone booths and hot desks also abound for individualized work. Abundant greenery and sunlight span interiors enrobed in hues of olive green, terracotta, salmon pink, and cream, complementing an organic materiality of large-format timber and cork. Both anchor materials were chosen for easy reuse, and installed free of adhesives to ensure effortless repair and replacement as well. A bespoke green terrazzo reception desk commands the spacious ground floor lobby, doubling as a bar for use beside the kitchenette wrapped in speckled cream terrazzo. Bespoke joinery also punctuates the interior, from lobby banquettes and cabinets to plywood office desks. A communal table composed of plywood and black-speckled terrazzo is also featured in the lobby.
