At the threshold of an industrial hub and the natural landscapes of Odense, Denmark, the new headquarters of Danish trade consultancy Dymak is unveiled by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Spanning more than 30,000 square feet, the circular building hosts offices, showrooms, and other shared facilities oriented around a sheltered green courtyard. The project is defined by a sustainable footprint, touting a glass and timber facade as well as interiors lined with natural Dymak materials. “The Dymak headquarters is conceived as a tour de force in low-carbon materiality,” says BIG founder and creative director Bjarke Ingels. “The circular building provides a well-lit work environment arranged around the central courtyard, secluded and sheltered.”
Gridded exteriors illuminate double-height interiors adorned with a raw, tactile palette of wood, clay, cork, and eelgrass beneath ceilings lined with recycled paper fibers. Further imbuing the headquarters with low-carbon warmth are brick floors, which also extend into the social courtyard. The ground floor heralds arrivals with a showroom, photo studio, and fitness center, while upper floors host open workspaces, meeting rooms, and lounge areas.
In addition to flexible workspaces, the new Dymak offices are equipped with an undulating rooftop raised to the north to frame panoramic vistas of nearby forests. The sinewy roof also cascades toward the south to provide shade, optimize indoor climates, and reduce noise pollution. “The solar roof is angled to optimize power production, minimize solar heat gain, and maximize views of the neighboring wetlands,” Ingels adds. “The resultant sculptural form is reminiscent of a Möbius strip in geometry as well as a tribute: not only does it look unique, it also performs uniquely.” Rainwater managed through open channels and landscaped basins as well.
