International auction house Bonhams is set to unveil its U.S. headquarters inside the transformed Manhattan landmark of Steinway Hall. Honoring the rich legacy of the historic site, the 42,000-square-foot flagship will accommodate the company’s full New York workforce as well as facilities including four minimalist galleries, cataloguing and photography studios, meeting rooms, a boardroom, and two large auction rooms housed within an expansive, triple-height gallery. Gensler serves as design architect for the project with designer Nada Sawires overseeing interior design.

The new Bonhams headquarters will herald arrivals beneath a soaring 80-foot glass atrium housing the main lobby and reception area. Contrast will be a key theme throughout, with original limestone and brick juxtaposed with modern finishes and materials. Interiors will also aspire to embody calm in contrast to the bustle of Manhattan, drawing upon the Beaux-Arts flourishes of the building’s rotunda. Bespoke elements will elevate the showroom space, accentuated by soft suedes and rich velvets as well.
