Osaka-based studio DA-OSAKA has unveiled the design of its new office in the Jinbou-cho Chiyoda section of Tokyo. Overlooking the Nihon-bashi River, the design draws upon site history with elements like existing exterior brown tiles stretching inside to wrap the workspace as well as some furniture. The tailored office also features a narrow central staircase to enhance the arrival experience and smoothen transition across different areas. Curved forms also abound in the profile of tile applications around corners. Custom stainless steel light fixtures also evoke the sinewy form of book pages being flipped, a modernist nod to the neighborhood’s landscape of bookstores that imbues interiors with a sense of motion. “By connecting the building’s past with contemporary office use, the space aims to evoke a sense of continuity, calmness, and quiet inspiration,” says DA-OSAKA designer Chaeri Hwang, “like working within the flow of accumulated time and knowledge.”
