Designer Gabriella Marcella brings her design ethos to life across the colorful new workspace of RISOTTO Studio in Glasgow. Housed inside the Glue Factory Galleries, RISO 100 comprises both a working print studio and a creative hub hosting workshops, exhibitions, and events. Not only is the space distinguished by the studio’s distinctive risograph printing process, but a collaboration with English furniture maker BISLEY enlivens the creative atmosphere with iconic storage pieces reimagined with vibrant color. “The studio lets me straddle my love of interiors, architecture, color, pattern, modularity, and systems, but in 3D,” Marcella says. “It’s not just a container for work. It’s a working installation, a celebration of what we want to keep making, and how we want to make it.”
Enrobed in signature BISLEY hues of blue, pink, red, and yellow, the studio is crafted to embody flexibility. Flap curtains open or enclose the space while fixtures, workbenches, and sculptural pieces are all equipped with wheels to easily transform interiors as needed. A central incubator dubbed the Green Room touts custom furniture from maker Alexander Garthwaite along with high-function custom storage. Steel BISLEY units double as sculptural color blocks beside cantilevered paper shelves that also imbue an artful appearance. “The building used to be cold and damp, and that’s basically the opposite of what paper and ink want,” Marcella adds. “I’ve been working hard with various artisans and trades to turn it into a very bespoke, bright, warm, paper-friendly workshop that holds up in the depths of a Scottish winter, and as glorious on a long summer night.”
