A notary office is crafted by local studio Dolgopiatova Interior Design akin to a private gallery or intimate workshop across the first floor of a historic building in central Kyiv. Accommodating a five-person team, the workplace unfolds in a calm, cohesive narrative rich with earth tones, tactility, and a curated selection of objets d’art to inspire a meditative, introspective state. “This interior is about connection with the earth, about silence and inner strength, without ostentatious solutions,” says designer Oksana Dolgopyatova.
The central core of load-bearing walls instills an internal logic reminiscent of a gallery with art and design elements to establish rhythm. Wood shingle panels sourced from century-old wine barrels bear muted white and blush tones as they recall traditional Ukrainian roofing and symbolize security. Walls and ceilings are adorned with a textured finish also inspired by traditional mud plaster complementary to stained doors and details. Oxidized brass elements throughout infuse the beautiful imperfections of nature as well.
In the foyer, two mirrors and a sculpture by Alexander Sukholit serve as focal points along with an abstract coat rack resembling used matches. A curated collection of art and designworks is showcased in a guest lounge also appointed with sculptural seating made from reclaimed Italian wood and coffee tables composed using the keel of an antique ship. The owner’s office is also anchored by artwork. Alongside a Gothic armchair, walnut bench, and a natural Sequoia Quartzite desk, a monumental textile panel by Oksana Levchenya yields emotional resonance.
