Located in Taichung, Taiwan, the new office for international ceiling fan manufacturer KUBRICK honors its legacy of craftsmanship and respect for nature. The breezy design by InOrder Studio serves to embody the brand’s principles through a marriage of function and fashionable materials. White ceramics, birch plywood, fluted glass, and polycarbonate panels span the interior to create “visual permeability in a space that requires segmentation,” InOrder design director Ching-Ju Chen says. “You might find similar spatial qualities in Taiwan’s small alleyway cafés or even in the homes of younger generations. In that sense, this design is a distinctive yet familiar expression within the local architectural landscape.”

Spread across the 18th story of a commercial high-rise, the layout is efficiently zoned to accommodate discussion corners, mobile brainstorming walls, and novel storage solutions. White brick elements and seamless resin flooring line these high-traffic zones, while ribbed glass offers both discretion and transparency, accented by dark navy curtains. “These choices enhance the spatial openness while also allowing occupants to experience seasonal and daily shifts in natural light—an essential detail for designers who spend long hours at their desks,” says Chen.If you look at the floor plan, you’ll notice that we have intentionally created buffer zones within a workflow-driven layout, allowing for a rhythm that balances efficiency with moments of ease.”

While ultimately functional, the design is defined by its levity and warmth, which aim to permeate approachability akin to one’s own home. In addition to soft palettes and textures common in everyday life, balconies and a communal island counter invoke residential comfort. Ceramic tiles in particular perpetuate this theme with strategic placement to distinguish work and communal areas. Other details like felt-based fabric curtains and semitransparent blocks are also chosen to support acoustic performance and noise reduction. “They asked us to create a space that conveys a sense of refreshing coolness,” Chen says of KUBRICK. “These materials were selected not only for their cooling visual effect but also for their familiarity in everyday life.”
